Kaye and Jec: How It All Started

We’re swooning over Kaye and Jec’s stunning Hawaiian wedding. I mean, have you seen Kaye’s stunning summer wedding dress? We’re obsessed. But let’s take a step back and start from the beginning. It is our pleasure to introduce you to Kaye Cabigting, one of our stunning real brides, and her husband Jec. Here’s a little bit of their story!

Kaye explains that she and Jec met when they were children at church, but didn’t really hang out until they were teenagers. Once they started dating, it was only a matter of time until they tied the knot!

Here’s how Kaye describes their proposal:

“On February 14, 2022, I woke up to a text from my dad saying that he needed help picking up a furniture piece for my mom in West Vancouver. He said he would pick me up after work and we’d go together to grab it. When my dad picked me up, I already got a possible hint that something even more special was happening (Because it was Feb 14 after all, and I didn’t hear a peep from Jec the whole day). We pulled up into a beautiful home on the west side and my dad said how stunning the house was, and when we were about to park. All the cars in the driveway looked familiar. It was filled with vehicles of my and Jec’s direct family. I knew what was coming.”

(Can we talk about how cute it is that both their families were there?!) Okay, back to the story:

“The door was wide open with Justin Bieber’s Lifetime blasting out loud. My dad says ‘Go ahead, inside.’ At the end of the hall, Jec was standing handsomely in a suit and with a big smile on, in the middle of an outdoor balcony that was decorated with baby’s breath flowers and hanging photos from our adventures and travel together from the 10 years we’ve been together. Fairylights glistening everywhere! Our direct family was hiding around the corner watching him propose. He pulled out a beautiful ring, stutterly said some sweet words, and asked me to be his wife. Of course, I said yes. A no-brainer.”

Have we mentioned how much we love love? And major props to Jec for pulling off the cutest proposal ever! Now onto the wedding planning!

The Challenges of Planning a Summer Wedding

PC: Dream FX Media

For Kaye and Jec, planning a summer wedding was no big deal. Kaye says, “Summer is both of our favorite seasons and the day was perfect. We got married in Oahu in Ko’olina and it’s known to never rain on that side of the Island. And even if it did, so be it! Nothing was going to stop us.”

For other couples, though, pulling off a summer wedding can be a challenge! So, we rounded up a few tips and tricks to help you ensure that your summer wedding goes perfectly:

  • You’ll need to take into account heat and humidity. Especially when shopping for summer wedding dresses!
  • Budget in money for providing parasols, individual fans, and plenty of water for your guests.
  • Summer is peak season, so you’ll have more competition for vendors and higher rates. Make sure to plan ahead!
  • Sweat is inevitable in the summer, so make a plan with your glam squad to put a stop to rosy cheeks, shiny foreheads, and damp underarms.
  • Keeping food cool can be a challenge if you have an outdoor wedding, make sure to talk to your caterers to put a plan in place to prevent food from melting.

Why Plan a Summer Wedding?

Kaye is a summer kind of bride, so she has countless convincing reasons why couples should get married in the summer. In her words, “The weather, the sun, the water, the waves, the overall views and vibes!”

Here are a few more reasons summer is a great time to get married:

  • You get more hours of sunlight in the summer to enjoy the day.
  • You get to shop for summer wedding dresses! So romantic and breezy!
  • You have more opportunities for outdoor venues, avoiding stuffy inside venues.
  • You can take advantage of fresh flowers and produce.
  • If you’re planning a destination wedding, summer is prime travel time.
  • More predictable weather leads to better photos!
  • You can opt for more bright and bold color palettes.
  • Sleeveless and short wedding dresses are more of an option, and you don’t have to worry about your nice dress being covered up by a jacket or shawl.
  • Speak to more flowy dresses in case of hot days or elopements
  • You’ll be glowing with your sunkissed skin and summer shine.

Kaye’s Summer Wedding Dress Shopping Experience

We asked Kaye to tell us a little bit about her experience shopping for her wedding dress, one of Rebecca Ingram’s summer wedding dresses, Lorraine Lane Marie:

She says, “I had an incredible experience dress shopping at the Bridal Gallery in New Westminster BC, and the staff was very helpful. I ended up walking out with a dress style that I didn’t think I wanted but felt the most myself in. This was the best advice my consultant gave me!”

Kaye brought all of her bridesmaids to her bridal appointment, and, of course, two of them cried and the other two had no words when they saw her in Lorraine Lane Marie. We have to admit, we didn’t have a dry eye here at Maggie when we saw her wedding photos either!

Of Lorraine Lane Marie, Kaye says, “My love story was like a fairytale in real life, and Lorraine Lane Marie had fairytale written all over it. From the glitter to the poofness, to the intricate details on the corset. Magical!!”

Want to know more about Lorraine Lane Marie? The stunning bridal gown is all about the little things. Shimmery lace, a layered skirt, and illusion bodice details come together for an exquisite statement in this whimsical A-line wedding gown designed for breezy celebrations! We’re so glad Kaye loves this summer wedding dress as much as we do.

Advice for Brides Planning a Beach Wedding

PC: Dream FX Media

Kaye’s advice to brides planning a beach wedding is all about shopping for summer wedding dresses. She says, “Try to find a wedding dress with light material! The bottom part of my dress was poofy but the acrylic was light and airy. I even altered it a bit more so I didn’t feel heavy while walking around/dancing!”

Here are a few more of our favorite suggestions for beachy brides:

  • Make sure your decor is wind-proof and rain-proof just in case.
  • Select the right shoes! Some brides opt for sandals, others rock bare feet!
  • Make sure there’s some shade available for guests so they don’t overheat if it is going to be a hot day.
  • Consider adjusting your dress code so your friends and family can stay cool and comfortable.
  • Consider scheduling your ceremony for the morning or evening to avoid sunburns and sweat stains.
