RK Bridal in New York

Tips and Trends | July 8, 2015

We sat down with the experts at RK Bridal in New York, one of our premier retailers, for tips on trying on wedding dresses, and finally finding that dress of your dreams. Maggie Bride Melissa Lorenti found the dress of her dreams among the racks at RK Bridal. “I wanted to thank everyone at RK Bridal for their tremendous help in assisting me in picking out not only my wedding dress but also bridesmaid/matron of honor dresses, mother of the bride dresses and a flower girl dress,” Melissa said. “Jo and Sandy were absolutely amazing! Jo saw my vision and could not have picked out a more perfect dress for me. I loved my Sottero and Midgley gown and felt like a true princess on my wedding day (11/22/14)! The alterations team was phenomenal! They were so accommodating and made sure that my dress fit as it should for my big day. Thank you RK Bridal for everything and I hope to visit your new location for future events! Best wishes!”

Q: What are the essential items a bride should bring when trying on wedding dresses?

A: “When a bride is ready to start trying on wedding dresses, we usually recommend bringing a strapless bra, shape wear, and a pair of heels. More importantly, bring a supportive entourage and any pictures that will help your consultant visualize the look you want to capture on your special day!”

Q: What tips do you have for brides who aren’t sure how to pick a dress?

A: “A bride who isn’t sure how to pick a dress should trust and communicate with their consultant. They’re experts at knowing which styles will look best with  your shape, all while keeping in line with the vision and budget a bride has set forth. Nothing makes a consultant happier than seeing their bride comfortable and feeling beautiful in THE dress. Trying on dresses can be a lot of fun to some women, but it can feel very overwhelming since there are so many gorgeous dresses to choose from.”

Q: What trends are you seeing in your region?

A: “Because of our incredible selection of gowns, our customers visit from all over the world to shop for their wedding dress. It’s extremely important for us to have a wide variety of styles and price points to fulfill the needs of every unique bride. Recently, we have found our brides are excited about body-conscious, slinky gowns with very little volume and embellishment. Sheer, illusion, and lingerie inspired details have also become a major trend in recent seasons. We have also seen the return of sleeves, which have been more popular than they’ve been in decades. Brides are still falling in love with lace gowns, low backs, and heavily beaded dresses. We have it all!”

Q: What is your favorite part about working with brides?

A: “Helping a bride find her dream gown is truly such a rewarding experience. This is the most special dress she’ll ever wear, and we love the bond and trust that forms during this process. In the 30 plus years we’ve been in the wedding industry, we’ve encountered thousands of customers with the most beautiful love stories, and have met many families who have overcome tremendous challenges. All of their stories continue to inspire us, day after day.”

Q: Which Maggie Sottero/Sottero and Midgley gown would you choose to wear for your own wedding?

A: “Selecting one gown would be impossible! Since each dress is so special and gorgeous, it looks like we’d have no choice but to have a fashion show!”

Q: What is your favorite bridal trend?

A: “Our favorite bridal trend would have to be dresses with illusion or sheer details. This detail could be incorporated in all dress silhouettes and styles for all shapes and sizes.”

Q: If you could tell brides one thing, what would it be?

A: “Enjoy the process… You’re getting married! Planning a wedding is a different experience for every couple, and you may face some challenges along the way. Do as much as you can at the beginning stages of the planning, that way you don’t feel so overwhelmed later on. Don’t sweat the small stuff, and remember to trust your instincts. The day goes by too quickly, so be sure to soak it all in!”
