Online Match Leads to Central Park Proposal Leads to Toronto Wedding (with Golden Princess Ballgown)
Some brides might as well have an honorary master’s in fairytale wedding dresses. Others come by the ballgown more serendipitously. Which is why we love Amélie by Sottero and Midgley—it’s a sophisticated upgrade to the princess silhouette, a magical exception to the “no frills” mantra, and a one-of-a-kind look for brides who (ordinarily) favor more understated styles. Which Maggie Sottero gown did you wear?
Amélie by Sottero and Midgley, purchased at Kleinfeld Canada.
How did you know when you found “the dress”?
I had initially set my mind on wearing an A-Line gown, but when I put on Amélie and walked out, everyone’s reactions made up my mind! It is such a beautiful, dramatic gown. Plus, I loved the champagne color because it complemented my skin tone very well.
What was your favorite part of the dress?
The Swarovski crystals on the bodice were beautiful. Oh and the plunging back was beautiful as well. I can have two favorite things, right?
How did you and your partner meet?
We like to say we met the old-fashioned way: online!
How did he propose?
Josh proposed in Central Park, New York. He was planning to pop the question on the famous bow bridge, but it was under construction, so he had to find a new spot in the park pretty quickly!
Where did you get married?
Archeo, Distillery District, Toronto, ON.
Did your wedding have a theme?
It was a rustic wedding but not strictly themed.
How did you decide what you wanted your wedding to look like?
I kind of built my vision one vendor at a time. Instagram and Pinterest were a lot of help, of course!
What was your favorite wedding day moment?
It rained during our ceremony, so we had to move everything inside. In the middle of dinner, the rain stopped and we snuck out to take a few pictures in the late afternoon light. The light was so beautiful and Josh and I had a lot of fun just walking around the Distillery and taking pictures that evening.
Describe your wedding in one word.
Intimate.
What advice do you have for future brides?
I stressed about the weather leading up to the wedding. It rained yes, but we still had a beautiful day. If it’s something you can’t control, don’t let it control your special day.
