Brittany is one of our fabulous real brides on her wedding day and found out that her mother had also chosen a Maggie Sottero wedding dress for her nuptials just a month prior! We asked her about her experience wearing the same designer as her mom and choosing maternity wedding dresses! Read on for the inside scoop!

Did you know you’d have the same wedding dress designer as your mom when you said yes to your dress or was it a surprise?

“It was a surprise for us to find out about our dresses being the same designer!”

Tell us your story! How did you find out you and your mom both wore Maggie Sottero wedding dresses on your wedding day?

Mom and I found out that we were both wearing Maggie Sottero on our wedding day when I picked out my dress in February 2023, the designer said it was Maggie Sottero, and Simply Blush consultant, Lindsey, told us that that was the same designer my mom had picked in January. Too cool!”

Where did you say yes to your dress and what was your wedding dress shopping experience like?

We both said yes at Simply Blush Bridal in Wendell! We enjoyed our experience with the bridal shop! A business is built on its employees and customer service and we enjoyed our time with them. I would recommend them to any up-and-coming bride, Lindsey and Susie are who helped us!”

What made you fall in love with your dress?

I loved my dress due to the princess, puffy vibes that came with the shiny silver sparkle and just ball gown feeling! It was the perfect cut for a dress, and the shape was able to fit my unplanned pregnant body and help me feel like an absolutely beautiful bride!”

Which dress did your mom wear on her wedding day and what made it her dream dress?

My mom loved her dress (Tuscany Royale by Maggie Sottero) due to the lace, sexual, slim, lovely look of her dress with such a beautiful modest tone to it! The veil and train were a great size for her and she loved the sleeves with her dress! Just perfect!”

What emotions does it bring up for you knowing that you and your mom both got married in Maggie Sottero bridal gowns?

“I think it is beautiful that my mom and I picked the same designer unknowingly! We often say that the universe works in mysterious ways and also that a lot of things come back full circle and so this experience was one of those for us! My mom is my best friend so there were so many memories and moments that were shared about our wedding days from the same designer dress, same wedding venue, and more! The quality in both of our dresses was just perfect due to Maggie!”

You said you and your mom got married at the same venue. What does it mean to you that you get to share that with her as well?

It meant the world to share the same venue with my mom! We had booked it for my wedding prior and while we were brainstorming my mom’s big day, she mentioned wanting to do something a little bit more than just the justice of the peace, I mentioned Seven Paths Manor and her eyes lit up! Joseph, Shayla, and Tamra were more than happy to help us make this request happen and truly we fell in love with the staff and venue! We knew they would take care of such a wonderful and important day for the both of us and we are so grateful to look back on it!”

You said you were 7 months pregnant when you walked down the aisle. How did that affect your wedding dress shopping and alterations appointments?

You’ll be so surprised by the pregnancy, as much as I was! We bought my dress in February of 2023, I found out on the first of November 2023 that I was pregnant and to my surprise, I was 7 months pregnant for my wedding in April 2024! I was a true 14 1/2 dress size but they don’t make that size so I ordered at 16 and was planning to alter it! Come our wedding day, I had only added the pearls to tackle my train! The dress completely fit! (No alterations were made! Phoebe (my child) helped me fit perfectly and beautifully into my ordered dress size!) It was so crazy to hope the dress fit on the big day and then so surreal when it actually did! I cried, we all cried in my bridal party!”

What advice would you give to other pregnant brides or brides going through big changes during their wedding timeline when wedding dress shopping?

The best advice I give any pregnant person, in general, is to give yourself grace and handle what you can with ease! Don’t stress about life choices and decisions, go with your gut and instinct! To have a happy and beautiful wedding experience, just go with the vibes… Also, have some great friends and family to boost your spirit in those moments you do let your doubt win in your mind! The brain is a tricky thing but a beautiful thing to experience!”

What is your relationship with your mom like and how was it affected by sharing so much of your wedding dress shopping and overall bridal experience?

My mom is my best friend and I am honored to have shared these moments and memories with her! I don’t find things in a jealous way, but that we are all unique and everything is individual! I am blessed to have the relationship that I do with my parents and it was not always this way, getting older has been a great experience with the advice and help my mom has always given me! We are always working on our happiness and purpose and my mom is 100% one of my biggest role models!”

Was there anything else you did to involve or honor your mom on your wedding day?

My mom was of course the mother of the bride at my wedding, she wore the same color dress as my maid of honor and my brother walked her down the aisle for me! I thanked my mom more than I can say for her help with our wedding day and for being a part of it! My mom’s parents have both passed away but they raised me and were a large part of my life so I had their picture in my flower arrangement!”

Answering FAQs About Maternity Wedding Dresses

What Is The Best Style Of Wedding Dresses For A Pregnant Bride?

PC: Holly Christina Photography

We would argue that the best wedding dress for a pregnant bride is one she’ll be comfortable in! That means that fabric goes a long way when it comes to maternity wedding dresses. Stick to fabrics that will give you room to grow throughout your pregnancy and move around easily in that don’t constrict your bump. Soft flowing fabrics like tulle and chiffon are a great option, as well as a maternity wedding dress with a stretchy jersey lining.

You might also consider choosing a dress that is light and airy to keep yourself from overheating during your ceremony and reception, especially if you’re planning a warm-weather wedding! If you’re worried about staying cool, we’d advise you to avoid stuffy high necklines, thick sleeves, and weighty trains.

How Can I Hide My Pregnancy Bump At My Wedding With Maternity Wedding Dresses?

PC: Holly Christina Photography

Hiding your bump in maternity wedding dresses can be as easy as choosing the right silhouette! If concealing is your goal, ditch the fitted silhouettes for a full skirt to hide your belly. Empire waists are also a pregnant bride’s best friend! They look stunning and are totally on-trend because of their Bridgerton-esque style! They also work wonders for hiding a baby bump if you’re not ready to share the news yet!

You can also be strategic about your styling to help conceal your bump. Keeping your bouquet with you and holding it in front of your stomach throughout your ceremony can be a great way to keep your oh-so-cute secret! You can also draw attention away from your belly with a dress with a lot of embellishment at the neckline. Consider adding dramatic jewelry or using accessories like jackets, capes, and veils to distract guests from your baby bump.

How Many Sizes In Maternity Wedding Dresses Do You Go Up When Pregnant?

PC: Holly Christina Photography

Every pregnancy is different. It can be hard to predict how many dress sizes you’ll need to go up to accommodate your changing body. (Which is beautiful, by the way!) Be sure to consult your stylist when you go wedding dress shopping. Tell them how far along you’ll be on your wedding day! They can help you order your dress in the right size.

As a general rule of thumb, though, here’s an idea of how your sizing might change throughout your pregnancy:

  • If you’re going to be 3-4 months pregnant at the wedding, order 1 size up from your normal size.
  • If you’re going to be 5-6 months pregnant at the wedding, order 2 sizes up from your normal size.
  • Going to be 7 or more months pregnant at the wedding? Order at least 2 sizes up from your normal size.
  • If you’re due within 2-3 months before the wedding, order 1 size up to accommodate your post-baby body.

Remember! It’s always better to have a larger maternity wedding dress that your seamstress can alter down to your size. It is much harder to add fabric to a dress that is too small. When in doubt, size up! But don’t worry, your stylist will help you find the right fit!
