Real Bride Natasha Mbalule Wearing Alistaire Lynette by Maggie Sottero

First up we have Real Bride, Natasha Mbalule, wearing our glamorous Maggie Sottero gown, Alistaire Lynette. This is one of our many classic wedding gowns that are designed for our gorgeous curvy brides! After reading about Natasha’s experience, you’ll be adding it to your shopping list!

How did you and your partner meet?

“I met my husband on a night out. I only gave him the time of day because we had a lot of mutual friends, but we ended up having a great time together. We exchanged numbers and started dating pretty soon after that.”

What made you choose your Maggie Gown, Alistaire Lynette by Maggie Sottero?

“I think I must have looked at at least a thousand dresses before I made my choice. Alistaire Lynette ticked all the boxes of what I was looking for in a dress for my wedding reception. It flattered my curves and was a good balance between sexy and conservative (so as not to send the African parents into shock.) From the get-go, I knew I wanted something with a mermaid silhouette and a train. This dress stood out amongst the others because of the gorgeous lace and little sparkle in the details”.

What was your favorite part(s) of your gown and how did you feel about the fit of it?

“I loved how comfortable the dress was. If you’re going to be wearing the dress for hours, you want to be comfortable. The mermaid silhouette didn’t make it difficult to move in at all. I also love how much support the dress gives. It’s so well structured that you don’t have to break out the heavy-duty shapewear to look good in it.”

What was your wedding dress shopping experience like?

“Malawi doesn’t have any reliable boutiques that carry wedding gown designer brands like Maggie Sottero. Normally, that would have meant traveling elsewhere to shop for my dress. However, due to the uncertainty of traveling during Covid, I had to do everything online. I was very lucky to have my aunt who lives in the US and the very helpful people at RK Bridal to help me out and make the entire process a lot smoother.”

How would you describe “the vibe” of your wedding, and what was some of your inspiration behind your big day?

“I was going for a classic-meets-glam look and a party vibe, and I think we achieved it. Malawian weddings tend to be rather formulaic. However, we set out to make our wedding a fun experience within the confines of tradition. We made sure our wedding playlist was music we would want to hear at a party and our friends nailed the assignment when it came to keeping up a celebratory mood throughout.”

Do you have any advice for brides-to-be planning their wedding and going dress shopping?

“First and foremost: start early. There’s so much that can go wrong, and you need to give yourself time to fix it.

Secondly, when it comes to your dress, be open-minded but have a strong idea of what kind of look you think would be perfect for you on your day. There are so many dresses and choosing just one can be difficult. Having criteria to narrow the search down helps a lot.

Lastly, wedding planning can be such a stressful process, and there will be so many people giving their input on how they think you should do things. It helps if you have a clear idea of what you want and can stand your ground on it. You may have to compromise on a few things but at the end of the day, it’s your wedding and you need to make sure you’re happy with it.”

Real Bride Tia Jones wearing Zander by Sottero and Midgley

Tia met the two loves of her life online: her now-husband, and Zander by Sottero and Midgley. Zander is one of our most popular gowns for a reason, especially with our plus size brides. Keep reading to see why!

What made you choose your Maggie Gown, Zander by Sottero and Midgley?

“I fell in love with this gown from the very first moment I saw it on Pinterest. I remember typing in ‘long-sleeve wedding dresses’ and being somewhat hesitant because when you think long sleeves you think of giant puffy 90s sleeves and that is definitely not what I found! From the second I saw the gorgeous lace detail, the AMAZING train, and that sheer bodice, I was in love.

I have an hourglass body shape, so I really wanted something that was going to hide my hips and thighs, but still accentuate my other curves which is exactly what this dress did. This gown made me feel so sexy, yet classy and elegant. I felt stunning and like the most beautiful woman in the room, which takes a lot of me to. Zander gave me confidence I never knew I had, and I think your wedding dress should do exactly that.”

What was your wedding dress shopping experience like?

“When I found Zander in store they had the gown in the black color, and I absolutely had to put her on that second. I didn’t even want to put any other dresses on that day because I knew it was already the one before I even put it on. I was so right! The moment I slipped that black beauty on, this warmth wrapped around me, and the feeling of happiness and joy was all around. I wanted to twirl and dance and hug myself like some weirdo in the dressing room but that’s how amazing this dress was for me! I guess the saying is right when you find the one, you know. It was a cool experience wearing it in black, but I did not choose that color for my wedding. I went with the Ivory over champagne/champagne accent.”

Do you have any advice for brides-to-be planning their wedding and going dress shopping?

“The best advice that I can give is to seriously trust your gut. If you absolutely fall in love with a dress you see online, you set your heart on finding that dress and trying it on. There is a reason you can’t get that dress out of your head.”

Unique Plus Size Wedding Dresses: Real Bride Asia-Cristine Wright Wearing Mallory Dawn by Maggie Sottero

This beautiful curvy bride not only met Mr. Wright, but she met the right gown as well when she laid eyes on Mallory Dawn by Maggie Sottero.

How did you and your partner meet?

“We met when we were both in the military, and at first, I only saw him in passing and hanging out with mutual colleagues, but I never thought about approaching him. Until one day, he introduced himself because he saw me crying after enduring a terrible day and was trying to cheer me up. Even from our first meeting, he has always been sweet and considerate. He did tell me during our first conversation that I met Mr. Wright (his last name), and I know he really was!”

What was your favorite part(s) of your gown, and how did you feel about the fit of it?

“I loved the sleeves because I fell in love with how beautiful the lace and beading were against my skin tone. Even the sleeves’ fit was perfect because they felt snug without being tight and restricting any movement.”

How would you describe “the vibe” of your wedding, and what was some of your inspiration behind your big day?

“I think the vibe was a mix of moody and magical romantic, it rained a lot on our day, but that made it even more intimate seeing how beautiful our venue was. Our inspo was entirely based on our introverted personalities and geeky interests. We always knew we wanted a smaller wedding, filled with hints of the hobbies that brought us together.”

Do you have any advice for brides-to-be planning their wedding and going dress shopping?

“I think it is okay to know what kind of dress style you want to wear, but I don’t rob yourself of an opportunity to try something on completely outside your comfort zone. If you want to try that sultry mermaid dress or a dress that is a little too deep cut, go for it! I was so surprised at what I ended up loving on myself, just because I was willing to try it on.”
